Åre Aims For Higher Environmental Standards Still With Vision 2035.
As climate change appears to be taking hold most of the world’s leading ski areas are looking to do ever more to do their bit to fight this global problem.
In Scandinavia, the region’s largest resort Åre has a plan known as Vision 2035 which sets standards and new targets of ever higher sustainability standards.
“The entire locality is working on protecting the natural areas and landscapes, building green transportation and developing affordable tourism offers,” a statement from Åre’s operators reads.
Åre ‘s sustainable innovations currently include:
All wastewater is purified in cleaning facilities.
No waste is accepted as landfill
Local operators are persuaded to use electric or electric /hybrid cars in every day work
Åre frequently organises open meetings discussing the destinations future.
